Halloween is coming up next month. Do you still hand out candy or do you give healthy snacks instead?

If you are giving out healthy things, what are they? We think we will go the healthy snack route this year and do our small part to encourage healthier eating.

I went to "healthy snacks" and toys or pennies over candy a long time ago.

I'm with Barry, no trick or treaters in the country, they all go into town.
But..... if we had them, it would be nice little candy bars, with some leftovers for us!..................sorry geekling!!!
Remember when we were kids? Nice neighbors made popcorn balls, homemade fudge, and one sweet lady had cider, donuts & hot dogs.

I started giving out stickers instead of candy back in 1983.

You would think since I am eating healthier, I do have surgery treats occasionally, I would pass out the healthy stuff. Childhood memories of bags full of candy an yes , the popcorn balls and fudge Molly mentioned though prevent this. I know where many of the " healthy" treats ended up when I was a kid, although I occasionally ate the apples I collected. I live in a gated community that puts on a Holloween Party for all the kids, so the door to door collections are minimized. I still decorate the house and front yard for the kiddies though and for myself. There is a skeleton on the door, tombstones in place and an artificial pumpkin to light up the porch. Last year I had four trick or treaters, I bought fifteen 1.00 candy bars. You can do that if not flooded with costumed imps. Oh, the leftover candy? I always make sure I buy the bars of candy my husband, my son, and I like. Nothing goes to waste.

I am a stick in the mud. I turn off my lights. We don't participate in Halloween. I stopped participating in Halloween 30 years or so ago.

We live out in the country in the middle of 25 acres, you really can't even see our house. We never get any kids, used to have a couple of Nieces and Nephews that would stop, but they are too old now. But that doesn't keep me from getting a huge bag of candy. You know......we can't disappoint the kids!

Halloween is my favorite holiday. However, few kids come around in my apartment building, but if they did, I'm all for giving them candy and cookies on Halloween (I love what you said, Lynne-I-Am, about what kids do with "healthy" treats).

CANDY!!!!! Of course we also have a bowl of allergy safe offerings too.
My lugs like candy and would be sad to get a box of raisins. They get those in their lunch all the time so it's not much of a treat.
Truly though the joy is in the trick or treating and decoration. We decorate a lot because hundreds of kids come through here because church groups and parents bring them here. My kid live doing the trick or treating, but never finish that candy. After a couple of days they mostly forget about it. So i don't worry much that they got a lot of candy. It'll stay up on top of the fridge till Christmas for the most part.

I like to do things differently, so years ago we started handing out juice pouches. We became known as the "juice house" and now kids will go out of their way to come to our house. I went from 15 kids the first year to last year we handed out 120 juice pouches!

barryboomer----- only a VERY evil person would give a kid a can of beans! Was he dressed as a clown? LOL
Halloween is the most fun of all holidays, we should ALL remember when we were kids & had such fun that night. The decorations, the candy & treats are important to our culture. As adults, we should pass our customs & memories on to the kids and not be such old cranks & meanies.

We give out full-sized candy bars. We don't have a lot of trick-or-treaters but I love Hallowe'en and I dress up too. And I only buy candy bars the adults here like so if we have leftovers they don't go to waste!
