If they used a tube to help with breathing during the general anesthesia, this is definitely possible. Definitely ASK your doc / nurses! Of course, you might just have the bad luck of having a virus hit you with terrible terrible timing.

Sorry you have such a sore throat - that stinks!

A sore throat for a few days after any surgery under general anesthesia is very common due to irritation from the breathing tube inserted during surgery. If NSAIDS don't sufficiently control the pain, call your surgeon for something stronger. However, if you are already on any pain meds for the surgical incision, do not take anything else for the pain without checking with your surgeon first.

As a nurse, I have worked with many post-operative patients. Often, people complain more about a sore throat from the tube being in their throat than the surgery! I haven't seen sores, though. Make sure your surgeon knows about that. Many people get relief from Chloraseptic spray, but with the sores, that would probably burn. Maybe you can get a lidocaine spray or something like that to help. I hope you find some relief soon. Best of luck to you!
