Has anyone ever removed their own catheter by doctor’s orders?

My father had prostate cancer too, when the Dr. pulled his out he had extreme pain, I seen it too many times, now I'm afraid to even have the doctor take it out. I know it has to be changed though.

My catheter was in for 21 days after surgery. Most of my friends said theirs was in for a shorter time but I followed what my doctor wanted and had no problems with healing. The removal in the doctors office was a piece of cake. He deflated the end and told me to take a deep breath. It was tender for a couple days but that was it.

PS: self removal does not sound like a good idea. There is a deflation process that requires some equipment, it is not just a pull it out process.

      What mgm48 Said.

Especially the bit about deflating the tip before removal. DON'T try it yourself.
