Hi indyeastside! I am going to reach out and see if we can find someone with proton therapy experience to weigh in. In the meantime, I found some information on the American Cancer society website that covers radiation therapy for prostate cancer, including proton therapy: http://bit.ly/NFMDyi

Hi Indyeastside...Also check out CyberKnife, see if you're a candidate. I had 5 treatments 15 months ago and PSA 0.4 today! There is no pain, no loss of work, no down time and very minimal side effects. My side effect was urgency and Flomax took care of that, also no ED as with surgery. All I can say is it worked for me.
      Good luck and God Bless.

Hi Indyeastside! I answered a similar question for another member yesterday. Here is a link to that thread...

I will make the same offer to you or your friend. Just send me a contact info request and I'll reply with my e-mail address and cell phone number and I'll be glad to talk to you or him to answer any specific questions. When my wife and I were making our decision on the right course of treatment for me I was able to talk to several past Proton Therapy patients and I found that to be very helpful.

      Hi Indyeastside
It is a tough call. After reading everything I could get my hands on about Proton vs. Photon, and asking several former patents I have decided to go with the proton. That is just my personal choice. My urologist said he could not recommend it but admitted he did not “know a lot about it”. My GP also admitted that, but said she had great confidence in the U of F Shands hospital. The cure rate seems to be about the same, although there is few if any long term studies over 5 years on it. The former patients of proton I have talked to have had little or no lasting side effects. i have sent in the paperwork and waiting for an appointment. I'll have to stay in Jacksonville but hope to drive home on the weekends. Good luck
