Sometimes that happens and there are a few reasons. The colon is lined with mucus and if it is irritated, this can happen. People with colitis have this issue also. One thing to consider however is called Intussusception and this is when a portion of your colon retracts or telescopes into another portion. Usually when this occurs you will see that red streaked jelly like substance. If that is the case, they usually use a water or air enema to fix it. Rarely does it have to be surgically repaired. If you are not experiencing any pain or abdominal discomfort it could just be an irritated portion of the colon. Good luck to you and I hope someone here will be able to guide you with their similar experience, Carm RN.

Have you experienced any constipation? I had some bleeding but was due to constipation. At which point I changed my diet to help with softening of the stool. Shortly after I experienced the clear gel like substance you mentioned but it stopped. It has happened only once. No abdominal pain involved.

Treatment messes with all parts of the digestive tract and your body as a whole. Make sure it doesn't get worse or is constant, because that may indicate infection. In which case antibiotics would be needed. I suggest you speak to your doctor about this, and he/she can decide if any tests are needed. Hugs.

Since I finished my treatment on June 2012 I have had this gel-like substance from the rectum. No bleeding, no pain, so I don't consider it important. I keep forgetting to mention it to my doctors.
Let me know if you learn anything more.

I have had the mucus, but no bleeding. I had a colostomy last September and mentioned to the surgeon then that I still got "toilet pains" like I needed to go from the rectum, but it comes out into the bag instead. He said that this is normal and not anything to be concerned about. But like I said, I have not had the bleeding
I do get some blood in my bag everytime I put a new one on, but I believe this is just from aggravation of the stoma. I mentioned it to my oncologist and he said to just keep an eye on it and let him know if it becomes excessive.
So it sounds like this is all normal, or as normal as you can be in our condition.
      Good luck with it all

I had an abdominal perineal resection, followed by radiation and chemo. I had a fistula or wound that took a long time to heal. Meanwhile I had had the gel like stuff. Saw a plastic surgeon who treated me with Aquacel AG (treated gauze material stuffed into wound), followed by applying a Wound Vac. Wound healed, but now appears to be reopening.
