Has anyone on ABVD experienced significant shortness of breath and extreme fatigue. My husband's lung and heart studies are good.

His recent CT's scans (hospitalized for sepsis in July) showed the nodes were almost back to normal.Just taking a shower or brushing his teeth are cause for him to sit down due to his shortness of breath. He completed 4 cycles and has 2 more to go.

Those are reasonable reactions to the type of chemo that he is receiving. Each patient will experience somewhat different versions of these side effects, but what you describe is fairly common across the chemo board. His body is fighting two enemies simultaneously. His blood numbers are undoubtedly low. Once he is done with chemo, he will rebound. Sepsis is a major problem. I hope that doctor is on top of that with anti-biotics, anti-virals and anti-fungals.

I developed lung toxicity from the bleomycin too. About four months into treatment my pulmonary function test showed that I had it and so they stopped giving me the drug. Here I am 25 years later and I still have lung toxicity ( come to find out sometimes it doesn't go away and can worsen over time). Thanks again, chemo!

I didn't receive this type of chemo but had the exact same reaction. I remember the first time it happend. I almost didn't make it back to the bed. I was in the shower...covered in soap and just about fainted. I had trouble breathing...it was horrible. My oncologist told me it was probably the anemia causing it I hope your husband feels better.

Thanks for you responses. We discussed with his oncologist today and my husband is scheduled for a pulmonary function study next week just to make sure it is not the Bleomycin.

I had lung damage going into chemo and wasn't administered the bleomycin because it can cause lung problems.

I'm getting avbd and I don't have shortness of breath but the fatigue thing oh yeah on some of my really bad days I'm so tired I can't get out of bed my dr says it happens and to just tough it out and try moving in short increments one day it took me 20 min to climb a flight of stairs lol. so that's all I got sorry it probably doesn't help much :(. I hope your husband starts feeling better soon :)
