Has anyone who suffers from bipolar or depression survived cancer? If so, how did you cope with this fact?

I myself am not on medication for it, but I plan to make a call today. I am not doing well at all. :(

I've suffered with depression my whole life and now that my cancer is back after 4yrs I'm trying to stay focused on the positive aspects of my life and stay away from the dark places but surgery is next Thursday and its always worse when I'm stuck in bed and unable to do anything for myself... I know that if I ask for water or an ice pack and my eleven year old gives me attitude I may just lose it and break down. I've tried many depression treatments over the years and none of their affects have out weighed their side affects... I'm more scared about depression than my cancer treatment if that makes sense.

My answer had been to follow with my psychiatrist EXTREMELY closely. I don't know what your insurance status is, but what I have found that it is worth paying out of pocket. Medications can interact with chemo/radiation, plus everything else you are dealing with. My psychiatrist is also in contact with my gynecologic oncologist as well. They have been working together to help me work through this.
