has anyone with a port ever had them break and leak?

found out mine was broken in at least 3 places and leaking badly. Now I am worried about if any damage was caused by it

What did your oncologist say? Did they tell you what would cause the port to break like that? I presume the leaking was your chemo leaking out of it?

Obviously, i guess from my questions, it never has happened to me. I don't think i have heard of it happening either. Please let us know what you learn. How did they determine that the port was broken and leaking?

I've not heard of one breaking and leaking like that, but I've heard of other problems, they are not widespread though. I had one that just stopped working and had to be replaced. After that I kept it for 15 years without problems.

I didn't have a port, but I did have a Taxol leak during regular IV chemo. I had a huge chemical burn on my arm, maybe 6" x 2", w/a big blister in the middle. Then the whole thing crusted over. It was kinda gross. 4 years later, that area of my arm is still darker than the rest of my arm. And when I still had the yucky... do you know how hard it was not to pick at it? I pick at things. Sunburns, scabs, whatever. I managed not to touch the darn thing. Looked like a REALLY nasty 2nd degree sunburn.
