Help me find a Treament Center.

What is the best hospital/cancer center for the treatment of gyn cancers. I just found out cancer is back. Any suggestions are appreciated.

      Dear patties,

Hi. I'm Aliza, a BC patient and also a retired Medical Librarian. I offer my services on this site and elsewhere-they include advice (usually non medical), referrals to doctors, hospitals/instiutions. agencies, etc. and research when required or requested.

I did some research for you based on your locale, and the type of Cancer you have and the best local place for you is Moffitt Cancer Center which is in Tampa and is endorsed by the NCI (National Cancer Institute), meaning they do research there (which is a good sign). I phoned them and spoke with a nurse there and asked her specifically if they treated vaginal cancer and the answer is yes thy do. So that's a good thing if you want to stay local.

I'm really not sure if there are institutions that specialize more in gynecological cancers than any other. Moffit has a Women's Cancer Center, which is a good sign. I don't know if, for example, Memorial Sloan Kettering is ranked higher than Dana Farber or MD Anderson or UCSF in successful treatment of vaginal cancer. It would require a lot of research and I don't mind doing it, but I don't know a) how far you want to travel and b) whether you'd be willing to go back and forth to a place that isn't near home.

My own thought would be to give Mofitt a try and see how you like it - ther gynecological oncology service, etc. If it's not what you want, I'm happy to research further for you. You can always message me here or email me offsite.

You might check out a site called Foundation for Womens Cancer. It is a great source of resources for gyne cancers and you might find the answer you seek. Best of luck, Carm RN.

The top two are MSK in N.Y. and MD Anderson in TX. You can go for second opinions and then get a treatment plan to be followed at your local facility.

Thank you all so much for all of this info. Thank you AlizaMLS for going the extra mile for me...calling Moffitt...wow! I have an appointment at Moffitt for next Friday. I am seeing my current local private practice gyn. onc. tomorrow to find out was his treatment plan is and I will compare it to Moffitt's.

      Thanks again,
