How long did you wait for pathology report?

Thoracic surgeon wants me to wait another week for results. Why? Aren’t they mine to have. I did not have this with other two cancers. Not happy.

The first surgery I had to wait a week. I had my follow up appointment and actually got called the day before. Just had a second surgery and I was given the results at my two week follow up appointment.

Yep. I have had doctors call me and even fax the report. I am 9 days post surgery. They have the report. This is some archaic way he does things. I know it is cancer. Just want to know primary .. my third or metastatic. Really is MY report. Nurse navigator did not answer yesterday’s note.

I agree with you that doesn’t make any sense. If they have the results why won’t they give them to you. Sounds really unfair to me

Got the results...guess when they figured out that I knew it was cancer and was looking for primary or metastatic, they told me. Primary.. so I have three primary cancers... yippee and more info Tuesday.

I am so sorry, but glad you finally got the results. I always told them to please call me and let me know before my appointment. I wanted time to process the news. Then when I went to my appointment I could have all my questions ready. I wish you all the best. Let us know how things go on Tuesday.

      Exactly.. this was message
It feels weird to say this, but I have good news-you have a 3rd primary. Its hard to wrap the brain around that statement but as I am sure you know, having multiple early stage primaries is better than one metastatic one.
I am not the usual. This is my third go around with cancer in 15 months. Just did not know what to do. I told her previous to this we knew it was cancer but not whether primary vs metastatic. I got thru. Nice Thanksgiving with this news

Unless the doctor knows your personality, they prefer not to tell you by phone, because you might get extremely upset. If you are in their office, they are there to calm you and explain everything.

      Best wishes, 2943.

We got it worked out. I knew it was cancer just not which one. Nurse Navigator now ‘gets’ I am one you can give stuff to. Now tumor sample sent out for additional testing with regard to chemo recommendation. Now get to wait another month for that. Doc did apologize for not having me sign papers weeks ago to speed things up. What a journey! This cancer again early stage one. They call me unique like a unicorn for having 3.

For both my cancers the surgeons have handed me the pathology report before I left the hospital, Of course the reports were written in doctor so they are filed away. My second report did mention that it need further testing this was because there were two different cancers involved. It was the Tumor Board that eventually decided the path of treatment.

My surgeon gave me the pathology report within a few hours after the surgery...luckily my wife was in the ICU room with me to get all the info as I was still quite groggy from the anesthesia.
