How long have others felt pain or discomfort after masectomy and / or lymph node removal?

I had bi-lateral masectomy and 8 lymph nodes removed under my left arm. I also began reconstructive surgery.

I had bilateral 11/11 with tissue expanders. I took pain meds for about a week or so. I had my drains for a month and that was very uncomfortable. I was sore for a while but I cannot say pain longer than about a week. Pain meds were mostly used at night for sleeping. The tissue expanders were uncomfortable for me. I just had implants put in 10/12.I am still alittle sore and tight but I hope that will go away soon. They feel so much better than those TE's It was a long time. I hope to have nipple grafting soon. I still have numbness under my arm. Not sure if that will go away. I hpe you feel better soon. Best of luck to you

It takes time...I remember feeling numb where the axillary dissection was...don't remember much pain with bilat....I remember feeling pretty good about 2 1/2 weeks post surgery....I had bilat with axillary dissection...I struggle with pain meds, so ibuprofen is my choice of pain relief..

I took my strong pain pills for about 5 days after my bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. After that I just took Tramadol or Advil if I had any pain. Mostly I was just very sore and yes, the drains were uncomfortable. I am still mostly numb on my breasts and under my arms and my surgery was back in February.

I think that depends on how you define pain. I never had what I call acute pain. I had a pain med pump for a couple of days after surgery. I still have some discomfort now, 7 months after surgery from scar tissue, but it feels more like a bra that is just a bit too tight (even though I no longer wear one).
