My doctors seem to say for the rest of my life I'll be chemically castrated. That's what Lupron and Zoladex do they shut off the testosterone production of the testes. I've had almost no problems with the injections.

Hello MedfordBill, I am an oncology nurse so I will attempt to answer this question. Lupron lowers testosterone levels so in effect it treats the symptoms of Prostate cancer, however it does not treat the disease itself, only the symptoms. It is usually given for about 3 years but can be extended if it shows a benefit. I hope this answers your question, Carm.
