Hello, I am an oncology/end of life nurse and a great way to stop a cough is to put vicks vaporub on the bottom of her feet and then cover her feet with stockings. We do this often with terminal coughs and it always works. If the cough is not related to an infection like the flu, a cold, or sinus infection it could be due to a reaction to a drug, so make sure you let her doctor know so that the doctor can adjust or add a medicine to control a cough like mucinex, or tessalon perles depending on whether the cough is productive or not. They might also prescribe a syrup containing codiene to stop the cough as well. For a short fix now, the vicks vaporub always works....don't put on lightly, rub a liberal amount. Best of luck to you, Carm RN.
