Have him ask his doctor for a referral to a pain management specialist.

So sorry that your husband (and you) are going through this. Although I do not have any ideas, but wanted you to know that I prayed for both of you tonight.

Ask about a referral to a pain management doctor. After continued pain (also spread to the hip bones), my doc gladly referred me to a pain doctor, and we are working well together. Best of luck to you!

If his Dr. doesn't want to keep him pain free, maybe you should consider another Dr.???

I don't know what your husband is taking not am ia doctor. However, I had the same thing and my doctor just said to move the med schedule up to cover the difference. Essentially he gave me permission to take an extra dose. It worked wonders and when the pain eased it was easy to cut back. I also took Alieve.

There has to be a reason for this. My meds didn't work for me either and he upped me to every 2 to 4 hrs. Every 4 work just fine. I am also stage 4 and it has spread to 5 other places, however, every shingle patient is different. Can you get a second opinion possibly?

I don't know what pain meds he is on, but our ONC said that morphine won't work on bone pain and we started on advil and aleve alt (4-5 hours) + 30mg ER morphine(12Hours), that combo worked, now that the chemo has helped he is only on 15mgIM morpine + aleve as needed
