My husband also had severe stomach spasms after his whipple. At times they would wake him up from sleep and he'd have to sit at the wide of the bed and just breathe through them. He had his surgery November 2011. I don't remember how long long it's been since he had them, but they gradually became less and less frequent until he doesn't have them anymore. Good luck to you. . .I hope yours will soon lessen in frequency and disappear altogether.

My experience has been at the other end of the scale. Rather, had my Whipple 4/27/2004 but only in the last year or so do I get a cramp, actually two (2) twists, at each side of the transverse colon. ( The large piece of intestine across the very top ) It pinches and rotates, i am concerned that if it lasted very long lack of blood flow could induce necrosis. I push in with my hands and lean back, it passes within a minute or so but hurts like the dickens while happening. My onc says he would have to feel it happening? Doesn't happen too often but more and more so I have to wonder as to cause. Anybody else ever get that? My apologies for being unable to answer the original question.

oh yeah I've read some articles and they actually refer to it as the 'whipple pain". I've had a handful of them. They usually only last about 3 minutes or so but at the time you think your gonna die if it doesn't stop.I'm almost 2 years out but I still get them occasionally.Just try to remain calm and breath when they happen and they do subside.

I am 4 yrs post whipple and I too get those stomach attacks. Perhaps 1-3 per year. Cannot pinpoint what brings them on but pain is so severe it takes my breath away. I hold my breath and will pass within couple of minutes. But often feel like I will pass out from pain. Once happened in Walmart and someone saw me and wanted to call 911. For rest of day my energy is zapped. I suppose ba small price to pay for alternative.
