I am supposed to start PCI; I am concerned because I already have weakness/fatigue and some memory changes from chemo. I live alone and

I worry about self care deficits. Should I have the PCI? What if I can not care for myself while getting radiation or later?

I don't know what PCI is but if you are concerned about needing some help with personal care, your oncologists office should be able to provide some referrals to home care services.

MRoadrunner, what a great user name. There has always been controversy surrounding PCI. It seems half the medical community see its benefit and the other half see this type of treatment as knee jerk reaction. If these are your concerns then you should address them with your oncologist/ rad. oncologist. However, keep in mind that what you are concerned with is surely to occur if you develop brain mets. This treatment is designed to stave off that possibility. Im sure your doctor has your best interests in mind but if you feel apprehensive, perhaps you can ask your doctor for the contact info of 2 patients in his patient list who has had PCI. Patients willing to share their experience with you and who received that treatment from the same physician. It might help you in the decision process. Best of luck to you, Carm.
