I asked this same question, did research and resigned the fact that it is part of treatment and knew the next visit would be us giving final permission; per the doctor mentioning this on last treatment.
Well, we waited and waited for the doctor to bring it up. I had a crowd with me to ask any and all questions and to approve this procedure. We finally brought it up to him. He said he would never do this due to causing dimentia and was not to be considered. I called him out on what he had said on last visit. He looked at me blankly. We all walked away scratching our head.
Being small cell lung cancer it was easily combatted out of the lung with chemo but see a small trace in hip/bone area. His only recommendation was to do a CT scan every 2 months to wait before we can fight and to do Zometta every month (IV treatment) to keep bones strong. We feel like we are waiting for a keg of dynamite and confused as to what next step will bring.

Thanks for your response. It is small cell lung cancer, at this point
I do not have a brain tumor. They want to prevent this from going to the brain. It upset me that I have to go through radiation again, so I wanted to check and see if others have gone through without having a tumor in the brain and I believe they did call it PCI. I'm very sorry your husband had to go through this. Did he have any side effects?
Thanks again so much for answering me.

I had a scan of my brain to make sure that the cancer hadn't spread to that area. I was told that it is often the first place that lung cancer spreads to. I went through chemo/radiation but no one suggested what you are talking about.
