    I miss my boobs!

I just need a place I can say this - where people understand. I held a baby today at a work potluck.... boobless. It wasn't a good feeling. It's my first time missing those XXX things. That's all. BAAAAAAH!

did you go right to implants or did you have tissue expanders first?

My plastic surgeon called it the one and done, I had my mastectomy & implants put in at the same time. He said I had enough of my own breast skin to do this. So I had no tissue expanders at all.

I wonder if they'll move for you at all... are they hard? Mine are like rocks. Not awful but not great ;)

At first they were really hard, but they are starting to feel softer.I don't think they are going to move at all though.

I have a silicone implant (one side). I had to massage it a lot at first to keep it soft. It makes a difference. I still do it once in a while to make sure it doesn't get hard.

I know what you mean -- my friend who received the same diagnosis as mine made a comment to me recently -- she said she looked in the mirror and thought --
      "I have no hair -- I have no uterus -- I have no boobs -- Oh No -- I am a guy!!!!"
I guess it is good that she was able to find humor in her situation. However, it is distressing to be so different from your former self. It is certainly an adjustment. Hopefully, time will help. I wish you the best!!!

I know how you feel! I really wanted to go the conservative route so I could my boob because they had been a part of me for 65 years! No vanity, just the way I felt. That did not work so they are gone! My tissue expanders are not very comfortable--just hope the silicone implants feel better than this! Vent whenever, we have all felt either the same way or something close to it! I love this website!!!

I personally am thrilled with my double mastectomy. My breasts measured 50" around. It was very likely from the abundance of estrogen. Can you imagine lugging those things around? I am thrilled to have them gone. My plastic surgeon is also thrilled for me. I can throw on the cutest, skimpiest tops. When I have my reconstruction done, I am planning to have very small implants or he will do a tummy tuck and use my own tissue. We are waiting for my radiation to be finished. 18 more to go. Truly, I am so much happier. You are special and beautiful just the way you are! This is a new chapter in your life. You go girl!

I am almost finished with my reconstruction. I now have silicone implants and reconstructed nipples on my chest. Next step is using some of my belly fat to smooth things out. Used to be a saggy 61 yr old with 36 D Now I am a 61 yr old with perky smaller (C cup) boobs on my chest. Not much feeling in them., but I am definitely always aware that they are there. At least my clothes look good on me. Hope I develope some feeling in them cause I miss the fun I had with DH and the boobs.

Now with summer coming I know what you mean, sometimes I feel self conscious in tank tops, etc. I have silicone implants. They are pretty soft. Not as soft as the originals of course but softer than I expected. I still need 1 more surgery to finish reconstruction and once that is done and the scars fade some more I think I will be content. Not the way I prefer it of course but content.

I have saline implants. They were hard at first but softened up and relaxed within a year. Since insurance paid 100%, I went for it. No regrets. I felt like I was looking at battle scars before the implants and look more natural now. Everyone is different. Hang in there.

I chose a lumpectomy. That doesn't look so hot either. And I have huge breasts, so one now is sagging much more than the smaller one. I was warned that would happen. So I sometimes wonder if I should have made a better choice. Who knows? It was cancer, my second cancer and for now it is gone. As I approach my 60th birthday I realize our bodies change and don't look as good as they did before anyway! And I thank God I am here to whine about it lol. It sure isn't easy, but cancer hopefully teaches us who and what is important in life. Still...those momentary pity parties happen. It is ok! I bet your family is very grateful you are still with them. Good luck on this journey.
