    Inflammatory Breast Cancer

Has anyone had a recurrence in the opposite breast after a Bilateral Mastectomy and radiation to the diseased breast?

      Hi Risa,

I don't have an answer but your question has me very curious. I have IBC also and underwent chemo, double mastectomy with reconstruction, and just finished radiation two weeks ago. I was told that if I had a recurrence it would be in the liver, bones, and/or brain not the breast area. So, I am anxious to see the answers to your question. Have you been diagnosed with a recurrence?

If you had a BL mastectomy how can you have a breast left? Unless you are asking about the tissue that was left behind. My doctor said you can't always get all the breast tissue and that is why we still have to have check up. Cancer can reoccur anywhere in your body once you have had breast cancer. I found out that once a woman has BC her chances of Ovarian cancer are 67% higher. My doctor did a baseline on my ovaries as soon as she found out I had BC. They do that with an internal ultrasound. I go in for a check up on the 20th and pray nothing has changed. So you should have a nice long talk with your doctor about what is going on with you and if you are not happy with the answer seek a second opinion.
