Yes, I still have some side effects from previous treatment. I wouldn't say they are killing me though. I've just learned to live with them.

What kind of side effects are you having? I had Hodgkin Disease 24 years ago, still have some side effects from that, coupled with my new side effects from my most recent diagnoses of Head and Neck cancer 4 years ago.

I was treated 25 years ago and had very high dose radiation treatments to my chest and neck area. They gave it to me as a last ditch attempted to save my life. As a result of this treatment my Aortic and Mitrial valve had to be replaced and my Tricuspid valve is in total failure. I have only 30% of my lung function left. The right side of my diaphragm is non fictional. I have congestive Heart failure and COPD. In the last month I have started to have periods of apnea while I sleep. I am on Oxygen 24/7 and unable to do much of anything including spending time with my kids ages 17, 10, and 8. All of these things are the result of my treatments years before. So yes it is Killing me.

Nenny, I'm sorry your having that tough of a time with it. I have severe dental problems from my radiation, I'm having to have all of them surgically removed, but that's nothing compared to your side effects. I remember they put some lead "lung shaped" pieces over me to shield my lungs before each treatment. I can't say I have any side effects like you describe.

We have thousands of people on the site, so maybe others can share their side effects with you.

Nenny I have problems. Not as bad as yours though. I had hodgkins 31 yrs ago with radiation treatment to my neck and chest region. I now have muscle deterioration in my neck and back where the radiation hit, I have trouble holding my head up because of this (Called dropped head syndrome). Also dental problems continuously. It saved our lives then but now the symptoms of the treatment are showing up. In my case these symptoms can appear 3-30 yrs after treatment. I have had problems for at least 10 yrs but increased the past year and have dropped out of the work force. I just can't work anymore.
I really like this site because I have connected with other hodgkin survivors. I was feeling so alone and no one understood and then I stumbled upon this site. Carol

Nenny-Who: I recently registered as a member of this community. Today I read your question. I'm grateful to have you to relate to Sir.

In 1987, I had radiation therapy. In 1989, I had Chemotherapy. Both times to treat Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Since 2009, I've been diagnosed with late-effects of the above treatments. They include: high blood pressure, sleep apnea, heart valve disease, chronic ashtmatic bronchitis, chronic fatigue and chronic kidney disease.

I have found it's so important for me to gain as much perspective as possible about my current and evolving health status,

Thank you for asking. You're welcome to know any more details of my survivorship story.

      Regards, Glen
