Is diverticulitis and colitis a side effect or something else?

I have an apt. with doctor tomorrow, just wanting to get my questions in order before I go. I want to ask about diverticulitis, now I'm scared of getting it.

Diverticulosis is an out pocket of the intestine. These small bulging pockets can occur anywhere along the digestive tract. When something gets caught in them like a tomato seed or a nut, they get inflamed and then the inflamed diverticula becomes diverticulitis, or infection of the diverticula. Colitis or ulcerative colitis is usually referred to as an autoimmune disease where little blisters occur along the digestive tract and can occur from a parasite, bacteria, virus, even your meal. When the body senses something in the tract, even food, the immune system doesn't recognize it and mounts an attack. Diverticulitis is an acute onset disease, whereas colitis is more of a chronic disease that you might have been aware of long before now. If it is diverticulitis, it is easy to manage by avoiding foods with seeds. Best of luck to you, Carm RN.
