    Is it common for a PICC line to cause an infection and blood clots?

      Only if it is not being flushed and changed accurately and within the timeframe, Carm RN.

      RockTom, it is NOT common if the line is cleaned every week!!! Try to keep the line dry while showering. I used saran wrap and where the saran wrap ends(overlaps) and at both edges I used waterproof tape. Or another method is to use the sleeve section of a platex living glove. Just cut off the glove by the thumb. If you can't find a glove long enough, and this is no joke my friend, you can but really long disposable gloves that are made for cows.(think artificial insemination). Main thing, keep that picc line dry and cleaned once a week. Good Luck!
