Is it proven that exposure to asbestos causes cancer?

You see all this stuff on TV about it, they seem to be sure about it.

It is proven that direct inhalation of certain types of asbestos fibers can contribute to lung cancer. Whether it can be a factor in other types of cancers is not proven but is being debated (more by lawyers than by doctors).

The March 11, 2013 Wall Street Journal, front page below the fold, had the first of a series of articles about asbestos. The first sentence of the article was, “Three decades after Manville Corp. collapsed under an avalanche of asbestos litigation, personal-injury claims continue to pile up at a rate of 85 per day”.

Further in the article there is the statement that some of the claims are for the “… non-cancerous lung ailment called asbestosis”.

The attorneys recover you $500,000, take their $499,980 fee and cut you a check for $20.00.

The fact is that Lung Cancer among non smoking women is exploding and the number of people struck by meso ( sp) cancers is also growing.. The cause is enviormental.

If this causes a few cancers it is very likely it can cause other cancers as well because it causes mutations and those mutations could start a cancer elsewhere in the body.

For instance the mutations for the HPV virus responsible for Cervical and head and neck and several other cancers have been found in primary Lung and Brain cancers.

I would encourage anyone who has been exposed to explore their options regarless of cancer primary.

I used to be a claims adjuster for Workers Compensation. I had 2 asbestos claims, one a death claim which was allowed, appealed all the way into court, but allowed. He did die of lung cancer, which the attorneys proved was causally related to the asbestos inhaled at work.
