Is there anything I can do to raise my hemoglobin?

I went for pre-chemo blood testing yesterday and my chemo was cancelled because my HGB is 7.6. I was instructed to take iron tabs 3 times a day with vitamin C. I'm also eating liver. Is there anything else I can do? I will be getting procrit if my health insurance OK's it. But is there something else I can do to raise it naturally?

      Hello Marie,
I am attaching a link for you. It is from www.chemocare.com, a site that is free to join. They have a tab on the home page marked "Managing side effects." I hope this information is helpful to you. I just looked for low blood counts on the list and there it was. Best of luck to you, Carm RN.

Thank you Carm, that's a helpful site. I'll be increasing my protein and water intake.

I haven't started chemo yet, but when I used to donate blood they recommended eating cream of wheat.
