I have never had a thyroidectomy, but I do have hypothyroidism, low thyroid function. Until we found the right dose of levothyroxin (synthyroid) I gained weight. Surgery can also cause water weight gain, remember your body is out of whack, and it takes awhile for it to recover. I suspect once they find the right dose of synthroid you will start losing the weight.

      Hi again,
I do have problems with water weight. I drink LOTS of water for two reasons, one it helps with the water weight and two because of my saliva gland problems. I make a point of always having a large bottle of water with me. I do not remember having the water weight issue when I was first treated as a teenager so it is hard to pin it on that. I think it will get better when your medications get stabilized. Tracy
