Keeping cancer patients healthy when the kids are sick?

If you have kids in the house.... how do you keep your cancer patient well when the kids get sick? My son seems to get every virus known to man, and I'm constantly trying to keep it away from his dad. I'm obsessive about hand washing and wiping counters, but what else should we do? Obviously, it's me taking care of the sickie and not the husband (cancer patient).

I'm very fortunate to have my parents around so the last time my son got sick, we took him over to my parents house until he got well. It was too hard to have him here because I wanted to take care of him. Especially if your child's in school it's incredibly difficult to keep them well. All my doctor recommended was making sure he washed his hands, especially before he ate, and at the first sign of cough or runny nose, to give him medicine. When coughing, make sure they cough into their arm and not their hands. You might check with your doctor to see if there's some sort of supplement like Vitamin C they could recommend that would help prevent them from getting sick.

My twelve year old daughter and I both got the flu two days before my husband got his first round of chemo. We were told by a friend about olive leaf extract. my daughter and I took double and triple the recommended dose and the flu went away almost completely in two days. Now I give my daughter one every few days to keep her immunity up and she hasnt been sick since. Even though her besties have been sick twice since. I highly recommend taking it. ayou can get them in capsules so it doesnt taste like anything. Hope this helps!

      Hey there
One of my chemo nurses gave me a bottle of that hand foam, and we added that to our obsessive hand washing etc... Routine. I feel like we did pretty darn well. We - as a family - I think have actually been sick less this season.... Crazy!

Anyway, my kid and his buddies kind of like using the hand foam... And it does not have as strong a smell as that stuff you can buy.... And my chemo nurses were really nice about making sure I had some.... I ended up with about five bottles in the end!

Our child is nine' and he's definitely a virus sharer....

      Hope this helps a little....
