Kidney cancer that stretched into the heart?

Has anyone ever had kidney cancer that stretched up the vena cava into the heart? My husband had surgery this week for it but I'm finding little to no information on it. He's recovering well (exceeding expectations at every turn!) but I'd love to hear other stories or more information. I'll be honest, I'm also not sure how to even look on the internet for it or here yet. Please excuse my newbie-ness!

I believe you will need to get a more detailed and Latin diagnosis from the oncologist in order to do any meaningful research. You may think to write to JAMA or search Pub Med or even google by simply inputting "cancer kidney heart" and see what pops up.

Tell the oncologist you want to find more information and ask him where to look.

There is a medical librarian on this site. I'll look up her name and you can contact her for assistance also.

Best wishes for a complete recovery for your hubby.

My late wife had her left kidney out. It was by then the largest organ in her body. The op was a success but in 6 months we learnt it had spread to the lymph glands. Initially the first siting was near where the kidney was removed. 4months later she had a second siting near the heart. In the end this one turned out to be the least problematic as there is little to no fatty tissue near the heart for the cancer to feed off. My wife's tips both on convalescing and living with this cancer can be found here:

Thank you all for the reference and the information. Ian, I read your late wife's story and it was lovely. I believe I will have my husband try (in short doses) to read it when he's ready. I found it a story of living, not dying though! :)
