Know any diet, supplement for faster recovery from surgery?

Just came out of surgery, not so hungry yet, but I know I should eat if I want to feel better and stronger soon. Any suggestion?

Any incision takes some time to heal and trying to rush it along can sometimes make the scar worse.

A balanced diet is best because it helps you with the nutrition you need not just from the incision, but your overall body. Protein can help incisions heal.

Keeping hydrated is also important after surgery. Non caffienated beverages are best like water and juices.

My surgeon also said vitamin C is very helpful.

I always used Ensure for the muscles & immune system. Tastes good & it's great for when you dont feel like eating.

Vitamin C - you know there are three Vitamin Cs, right?
COFFEE, CHOCOLATE, and then there's that actually vitamin...

Seriously, tho... The hydration comment is a good one. But some coffee (if you are a coffee drinker) truly is required. That would be me - coffee... then other hydrating bevies!

All joking aside - ask your doc about incision healing... and when you can put stuff onto it. I hear aquaphor applied after the incision is totally closed up can help scars fade more quickly.... Vitamin E used to be recommended, but trials actually showed no benefit...

I had a wound that resisted healing. Poor circulation was part of the problem. A physician recommended that I use Juven (made by Ensure). It is used to promote wound healing. It is pricey but it seemed to make a difference. I wouldn't do this unless you are having trouble getting healed up because of the added cost. I agree, rest, exercise, good balanced diet and wound care are the most important. But when those did not do the trick, I added the Juven. It tastes a bit like Tang. I think I saw a big difference.

Juven is awesome. I also use Glutamine and Arginine supplements. All recommended by my cosmetic surgeon.
