kyphoplasty - Has anyone here had this done?

Someone has emailed us a question about how it's done, time to recover, etc. Can you please share your experiences?

I had vertebral compression fractures and had lost 3" of height when I was diagnosed 4+ years ago. The fractures remain only partially healed, with one year of monthly bisphosphonate injections (Zometa). Never had the surgery, so maybe not my place to comment but I want to throw out there that during my annual visit this April to the large medical center where my SCT was done, I asked if I was safe to assume that at this time I was as good as I was going to get. I still have back and rib pain, the amount varying with activity. He mentioned khyoplasty, but did not push for it, saying that they're not using it as frequently as it had been used in years past, because the effects appeared not to be very long lasting. I do remember reading about it much frequently when I was diagnosed than I see now. Keep on trucking everyone!

Like everything else opinions change on treatments, medications, food etc etc. At the time I was in such pain I was willing to try it . Now? Who knows. I still do my Zometa infusions every 3 months but who knows how much it helps , I don’t know how it feels to stop so no way go compare. I will keep doing what my team of doctors recommend as they have the experience.

Exactly, Lynniepoo! It'd be so nice to know what different outcomes would be instead of having to choose and then never knowing! Nice to touch base with you. :)
