Looking for good treatment center (Dr etc.) in Missouri or surrounding states.

I've just been diagnoised and not even sure its correct. Dr(s) I've been dealing with are very poor in my oppinion and want to speak to someone else before I let them continue (All they want to do is cut me open. I had to insist on a CT scan first to even see if there is a need or what the situation is. They can't even tell me with certainty what stage I'm at. Refuse to give me names of other Drs I can consult.).

Get a referral from you primary care physician or your state board of medical examiners. However, for many cancers, especially melanomas, surgical biopsy or tumor/lymph node excision is the primary tool for staging to determine if any further treatment is required. Doing a CT scan would be like looking for a needle in a haystack at this point until and unless a biopsy or excision pathology examination determines that the melanoma has penetration subcutaneous tissue.

Doctors (Oncologist) are not clarevoiant..(sp?) They need to get in and look around.. see how far and to where it has spread... Surgery to remove skin cancer is, I could be wrong, necessary to treat it. Don't let fear of diagnosis or just plain fear take away a chance to save yourself. Treatment of Melanoma requires quick action. As for fear. Ask God to carry your fear, ask him to lead your doctors to do the right thing for you. Then sit back and relax and trust in our Lords care!

Where are you at in Missouri? The oncologists both for radiation and for the medication treatment are great her in Lawrence Ks. We were originally seeing doctors at KU med and they are still part of the cancer team but taking the treatment to Lawrence was the best move for us because its close to home. The medication Doctor has not said for sure on doing the interferon because he is waiting on Braf testing to come back before we decide on the right treatment. The doctor seems to think that we will be back to Interferon so that is what we are preparing for. If you want the information on the Doctors let me know.

The University of Kansas Cancer center is good too. They have a team of doctors that specialize with Melanoma.
