    Looking For Treatment/Trial Options/Suggestions?

My Mom has metastatic transitional cell carcinoma (had kidney removed 2 years ago and tried several types of chemo over the past year and a half) Cancer is in her lungs now and CT scans show it growing fairly quick. She has not tolerated chemo treatments well and takes much longer to recover (platelets, white cells, etc) We have investigated trials at Johns Hopkins Hospital (where she's been getting treated) and NIH (National Institutes of a Health in Bethesda, MD). Unfortunately, due to her intolerance to traditional chemo treatment and her decreased renal function there aren't any appropriate trials at this time. We aren't sure what direction to take at this point. Obviously, it's Mom's decision if she wants to continue to pursue treatment. We just want to investigate what else might be available and I thought this would be a good place to ask. I'm guessing we're not unique when it comes to exhausting treatment options. Thank You in advance for any info or suggestions. Pam :-)

We have 3 articles on our blog that have different resources listed. I remember there being some links to Trials available, also I'm sure others will have some links for you too. Take a look at these to get you started.

      Pam,
My husband had right kidney removed 2 years ago with same thing. He was put on Votrient for about one year until it stopped working (there are side effects, but they were tolerable), then afinitor which stopped working in 1/14 and now he is on Inlyta which has a lot of side effects (high blood pressure and way more exhaustion than the other 2 medicines). We are waiting to see how he does as he is now on blood pressure medicine too.

I wish you the best--this is so hard for family to watch someone they love so uncomfortable and insecure about their future. Anne

Thank You Anne. I'll ask my Mom's doctor about these meds as possible treatment options. I really appreciate the info.
