Yup, had bilateral masectomy with reconstruction, also in feb 2012 had expanders placed and this past June got the implants and finished with the plastic surgeon (one less dr to see). I have been wearing a bra constantly day and night (yuck) and even when I take it off it still frees like I have a bra on. Sometimes I'm sorry that I did the reconstruction. I miss the feeling of freedom of having nothing on my chest. I'm just an aging baby boomer and now a dried up wilted flower child

Did you do the implants or flap surgery. I too wear a bra all the time, it keeps the implant from shifting. And yes it is tight across the muscle but this is from the implant not the surgery.

Try massaging the skin with vitamin E oil. My surgeon recommended it to help soften the scars and skin around them. It help breaks up the scar tissue that can form.

hey there - sorry you're feeling like this! that sucks!
i felt tightness in the beginning, but now i feel fine. i'm nearing two years out… had bilateral mastectomy in feb of 2012 (like you, it seems).

i highly recommend that you consider asking about physical therapy. it's possible that a physical therapist can help you learn stretches and other exercises that will alleviate this feeling.

did you have axillary node dissections? or just the sentinel node? that can make a huge difference.

i did not choose reconstruction, and i do love the freedom of having nothing on my chest. if you continue to be uncomfortable, perhaps this is an option?

      good luck!

I had my mastectomy with tissue expander in Aug 2012 with expander put in place. That stupid thing is still in place 16 months later thanks to radiation destroying the tissue. I am waiting to have the DIEP surgery in late January or February. I feel tight all the time and have been in PT for 5 months now. A week ago my plastic surgeon took all the saline out of the expander to help relive some of my muscle tightness. It has helped a lot I am only taking a muscle relaxer about once a day rather than around the clock.

Like Leepenn said, physical therapy is probably needed. I also did yoga, skin rolling and just as much major stretching as I could and as often as I could (2-3 times a day) without injuring myself. If I hadn't, I would have gone crazy with the feeling of dental floss being yanked around my chest and I would eventually have yanked back hard enough to really XXX up. Cocoa butter might assist also (pregnant women use it on their expanding bellies).
