Does anyone know anything about this medicine? My mom is not a cancer patient but has neurological problems. She is wheelchair bound and cannot feed herself. She's been losing weight and was prescribed this to stimulate her appetite. I don't think her Dr is qualified to prescribe this. Any comments or thoughts?

Here is a link from MedlinePlus.com on Megestrol (could not find anything on Megastrol)

Here is part of the description, ...Megestrol is a man-made version of the human hormone progesterone. It treats breast cancer and endometrial cancer by affecting female hormones involved in cancer growth. It increases weight gain by increasing appetite."

I've been on Megestrol for endometrial cancer. It increased my appetite a whole bunch, I gained weight like crazy. If you're worried about your doctor go find a second opinion, many doctors expect it.

Megace helps with appetite and is commonly given for patients who are losing weight due to appetite. Chemo drugs (many) change the taste of foods or wipe it out altogether. Me Megace sometimes helps with appetite.
Sounds as if you have little confidence in the doctor. You may want to seek another opinion.
