    Not HER2 Positive?

I have finished my chemo - 6 rounds and have had my mastectomy. The Dr. reading my pathology report told me there is no evidence that I have the HER2 receptor. I am still getting Herceptin. Now what??

Actually it not only works on the her protein but also the neu protein. Herceptin is a targeted therapy called trastuzumab which ends in ab which stands for antibody that targets a receptor site on the surface of an antigen like the her or neu protein that causes a malignancy. Herceptin is a very good drug so I would let it tackle your disease. Best of luck to you, Carm RN.

I think carm gave an excellent explanation of what Herceptin does...if you continue to have concerns, ask your oncologist to explain further why you are taking it...you always have the right to understand what and why you are taking a specific medicine...good luck and God bless!

I must admit I don't know anything about this Herceptin stuff, but it sounds to me like you need a second opinion. Why take the drug if you don't have to? It doesn't make any sense. Get a second opinion before you go much further with this Herceptin treatment. It could probably do more harm than good at this point.
