One Year Ago Today Meant Many More to Come

It's my birthday! Last year at this time I was getting dressed to go to my first chemo session. When I was getting hooked up my husband and I were discussing this (not even my worst b'day!), and the woman in the chair opposite mine chimed in that it was also her birthday. That kicked off one of the greatest friendships I've ever experienced. Bonnie didn't make it -- don't smoke, people -- so today I'm celebrating our friendship on our mutual personal holiday. I'll never blow out the candles on my cake without remembering her, and how much fun we decided to have at Camp Chemo. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, but for me cancer brought a lot of blessings, and my BFF Bonnie is at the top of that list.

Happy Birthday! I know what you mean. On my cancer journey I've made many friends with cancer and lost a few. And two months ago I lost my brother to lung cancer. He was a bigtime smoker.
