    pain & swelling w/mastectomy

I know everyone is different, but how long after a bilaterial mastectomy w/silicone inplants does the pain go away. It's only been 3 weeks, pain is better, can't find sports bra that doesn't bother my incisions. They all seem to be to short or if they are longer the elastic hits me right under my breast which is very sore. Also how long does it take for the swelling to go down? Thanks...

It took me 3 weeks before I bought bras from the mastectomy shop they seem to be really comfortable. I didn't really have any swelling except my scars were thick but they go away too.

It also took me 3 weeks, but I had my drains in that long ugh! had to much fluid so by week 4 I was back to work I wore the bras they gave me in the hospital for some time and then getting my TE filled I only wore cami's under my shirts. I didn't really have swelling either my scars were pretty nasty looking but healed well.
Sports bras I've been wearing since my implant surgery are Danskin from Walmart they are real soft and not short and not real elasticie. :)

Two days after the implants were inserted, I was wearing a mastectomy compression bra. I wore that for about a month and a half. They hooked in the front and were comfortable even with the drains. The doctor had recommended two different brands for me. One was Amonea and the other was ABC123. I found them at two different specialty shops. I now wear regular bras with the exception of bowling night which is a sports bra night.

The swelling and pain usually gets better after about a month. The incision scars will end up being very fine after a while as well. Every once in a while though, you still get sharp pains all of a sudden, and then they go away. My dr. told me that it was those nerve endings ... and that it should subside.

I too wore the surgical bra they sent me home in for the first 6 weeks bc sports bars were not comfortable... Especially in the 2-3 days after the TE were filled each time. My PS gave me another surgical bra when I asked at a f/u appt. I didn't have much swelling. I'd say at the 5 or 6 week mark, the incisions stopped bothering me and I now can easily go with no bra or just a cami.
