Pneumonia Timeline?
Asked by rainesalot on Thursday, July 19, 2018
Pneumonia Timeline?
My mom has MM and I think she may be developing pneumonia. She had a very small cough yesterday when we went to her monthly oncologist appointment. Unnoticeable as she didn’t cough at all when the nurses or her doctor could hear. Again...very small cough yesterday. Fast forward not even 24 hours later she has a 102 degree fever and a terrible cough. I can hear some crackling, so I’m freaking out. Can anyone share about how their pneumonia came on? Quick??? Fever??? How soon did you go to doctor? Did you go to primary care doctor or oncologist? Please help. I’m scared.

Get her to the doctor now. For most cancers, they say if the patient's temperature is 100.5, to call the on-call doctor. When mine (lung cancer) has gone to 101, they have sent me to the ER ... for me, it was nothing, but I didn't have a cough.
I would personally go to my oncologist, but I go to him for EVERYTHING at this point. Call his office, at least, or get her to an urgent care facility or something.
You are right to seek immediate help.

Her Doc can call it into the Pharmacy. I waited and wound up with Sepsis Pneumonia and in the Hospital for two weeks and almost died.

Get her to a doctor.
You can likely break the fever by applying alcohol to her underarm pits, under her breast bone and by her groin but this does not mean she is out of the woods.
A high fever is serious in adults.

Took her to ER early Thursday morning. She was admitted into ICU for low heart rate and suspected pneumonia. Confirmed pneumonia diagnosis after tests. She has continued to go down hill and I’m devastated. Sorry for the delayed response, but I’ve been by her side.

How is she doing? You have many of our members praying for her. Pneumonia is something we all worry about as our immune system is so weak. Best to you and your Mom.
