    Problems with other breast!!!!

    oceanblue24 posted an update

Problems with other breast! I had my annual mamo on my remaining breast & also an ultrasound & they said my breast is dense in one area so they ordered an MRI. Seems I can't have an MRI due to having metal in my body so just got a call from the surgeons nurse & they will confer with the radiologist & I might have to have a biopsy!!! I'm a nervous wreak!!! Just one yr, from initial diagnosis. I know this is premature but just needed to vent. Is it unusual to get cancer in the other breast this soon!!! Thank you all for listening!!!!

It is the most likely place for breast cancer to recur so not unusual in either location or time frame. Then again, you don't know that that is the case yet. It could just be some fibroids. In either case though, you might want to considered a mastectomy even if just for prophylactic and preventative reasons. I opted to have a bilateral mastectomy even though the cancer was only in one, because I wanted to be even and not worry about recurrence in the other.

Thanks nancyjac. I just got back from a checkup with my radiation Dr. & he has the report & said it doesn't look like anything bad & probably if the reading was on a person without having breast cancer it wouldn't be a problem. I've already decided to have the other breast removed. I only wish I would have done it right away like you.

if its in the other breast, then its a new primary, not a re-occurance...it would be the same as your getting Dx the first time....I had a bilat which was a good thing as prophy side was pre-cancerous so I would be going down this road again about now if I didn't do the bilat.....hope all stays well with you

Hugs, hugs, hugs. Cancer is a sneaky little devil, and breast cancer in particular can move around quickly and jump. That said, they are being extra careful because of your diagnosis last year - and most pathology reports come back negative. Good luck and let us know what the results are.

Breast cancer can most certainly recur the other breast. A new primary cancer can also occur at any time any where in the body, induding the same breast that was previously treated.

I am so sorry that you have this to worry about. I am one of those who chose to have a bilateral mastectomy at the time of my diagnosis. I suppose there is still some breast tissue there but I wanted to reduce the chance of ever having to have breast surgery again. Also, I am glad for the symmetry. Remember to take some deep breaths. It sounds like chances are it is nothing.
