Question... for those who had bilat mastectomy w/ tissue expanders. How long was it before you went back to work? How long before chemo...

started? I have a brand-new job! YIKES! My doc said "3 to 6 week" recovery. Not necesarily idicating when I can go back to work, just when I'll feel myself. Thoughts?? I am young (36)and healthy... ROAR, yup I said helathy. Thanks!

I has single mastectomy with expander. Went back to work at 3 weeks but this was working from home. It took about 4 weeks before I was driving and feeling well enough to have chemo port installed. Started chemo 5 weeks after mastectomy. Yes, you can consider yourself young and healthy!

So sorry you have breast cancer so young. I had a double mastectomy with tissue expanders as well. I went back to work about a month of surgery. I am healthy and fit also before the cancer. Don't overdo it with the expanders. I started riding the bike and stretching because I was feeling great and was very sore the next day. Just take it easy, specially after the fills for your expanders.

I had a bilateral mastectomy on Aug 27, port placed on Sept 20, chemo started Oct 1. Breast surgeon said 4 weeks for recovery. I continued on medical leave throughout chemo and just started back to work on Jan 23. Tissue expander/implant exchange planned April 2013...surgeon estimates one week off from work.

I was told 2 1/2 - 3 weeks off for bilat.....I felt pretty good 2 1/2 weeks post bilat...Because I started chemo 3 weeks to the day of bilat with TE, I was off work for month....but one week was my spring break...If I hadn't had chemo, I would have gone back to work at 3 weeks post surgery.....

My bilateral w/ TE was 3 weeks ago today. A week ago my ps wouldn't even talk to me about going back to work, even from home. She said recovery is 4-6 weeks & we can talk when I'm back at 4 weeks on Fri Feb 8th, but I'm starting chemo on Tues Feb 12th. Not going to work for 1 day, start chemo & feel like crap that week. I've been told on AC I'll feel like crap for 3-8 days after treatment. But working from home basically until July on the days I feel up to it. I'm going stir crazy so I am looking forward to starting back to work.
