    Radiation and Tamoxifen

My oncologist is recommending I start tamoxifen simultaneously with radiation treatment. He mentioned that there are mixed thoughts about this in the field but he feels it's the right thing for me. Any thoughts on this? Happy New Year to all and BIG THANKS for all the wonderful information!

I agree with Karen, they are two completely different treatments and to my knowledge, neither one interferes with the other.

I started tamoxifen immediately after finishing chemo, so it was alongside radiation for awhile. No reason not to, as neither interferes with the work of the other. Good luck with it all!

I had radiation and then as I was borderline for chemo to be effective after about six weeks took Letrazole - the generic of Femara . My breast surgeon said everyone is different but if you have any doubts get a second opinion!

My medical onc said it was fine to start the Arimidex at the same time as radiation; and that it was up to me. I could wait until after if I wanted to; but, I wanted to do all I could as soon as possible so I started the meds. No side effects (yet.) : )

I was taking Tamoxifen for 2.5 weeks prior to starting radiation. As soon as I started radiation, my legs started aching. The pain got worse with each radiation treatment until it became unbearable. They decided it was from the Tamoxifen so they took me off it until radiation was complete. The pain eventually went away. I have been back on Tamoxifen for over 2 months now without problems. I think this is a rare side effect.
