    Radiation Freckles

Just wondering if anyone has gotten new freckles near the radiation area? These are definatly not the radiation tattoos.I am considering a trip to the dermatologist, just to get a screening, just to be on the safe side,as I am very fair skinned.

Laura, I have had radiation twice and have not noticed any new freckles. I think you are right to have a dermatologist check them out to be safe. Good Luck

      Dear LauraJo,

As the daughter of 2 parents who had different types of skin cancer (I have breast cancer) and who's very vigilant about a total body screening once a year by the dermatologist because we belonged to a beach cabana when I was little (I'm 54) in the days before we knew how much damage the sun caused, I'd say you have a very good reason to have a screening by the dermatologist anytime you notice a change (i.e., freckle, sunspot) on your skin near your radiation site (Get the dermatologist to detail for you what to look for in terms of things to beware of).

Hope this turns out to be a beauty mark!

      Warm wishes,

Yeah, I made the appointment today...I really hate the "let's run to the doctor for every little hangnail" thing, but it can't hurt to check, and have a baseline. They really just look like freckles, not any kind of mole or irregular growth, but you never know.
