Readi cat 2 for ct scans

Hi! I have my three month routine scans scheduled for January 17th. I received a message from my E chart saying I have a prescription ready for readi cat 2. Apparently something they want me to drink the night before and in the morning of my scans. This is new and not sure why they want it. I always have contrast dye but in my iv. I have a message into the doctor but was wondering if anyone else has done this. Would you know what they are looking for? Any side effects from the readi cat 2? Just a little puzzled. Thanks, Sandi

I am puzzled too. Absolutely no clue what readi Cat 2 is.

It is a Barium sulfate that coats the esophagus, stomach and intestines. Apparently shows disorders. Never had this ordered on regular scans. Odd...waiting to hear from my doctor but thinking he is thinking about getting me off Prilosec for my reflux. So maybe looking for a reason for the reflux. My guess anyway...

It may be a new alternative since many have issues with IVs but similar in its duties when showing up in the CAT scan. Good luck and yes we are all curious about it as we too may soon be using it

I figured it out. Talked to a really nice lady at the cancer center. It is a new way they are doing the prep to lower our wait time. Before my ct they always have me drink some stuff that tastes like crystal light and I start about an hour or so before table time. This is something they mail home you take it the night before and one hour before table time. Basically saves me time at the center. She said I will still have iv constrast but this just eliminates the stuff i drink before for the esophagus, stomach etc. So it sounds like a good idea. They are trying to save patient time waiting. I can appreciate that.
