    Reconstruction surgery this week

I am having my tissue expanders and port removed this week and having my implants put in, can you tell me what to expect and what the recovery time will be?

My recovery after having the TE replaced by implants was much easier than the BMX. NO Drains
but I still laid around for 2 days under the influence of pain meds. Figure on at least a week before resuming normal activities. It was so nice getting those TE out. Your chest will not look perfect yet but a lot better than it had been.. My next step after the implants were having the PS create nipples from my own tissue and tatooed a nice nipple color. The next step for me is having some abdominal fat injected into the breast to smooth them out.
      Good Luck

Good luck in your surgery, I can't answer that question for you, in the last 25 years thats one of the only types of surgery I haven't had. HA! I wish you the best!

For me the implant exchange was MUCH easier than the expander placement. Just a couple days recovery with minimal pain meds. Best of luck to you!!

You should feel better immediately without the expanders! It does take several weeks to heal completely. I only needed ibuprofen for awhile. I had mine on February 14. Everything has healed nicely.

I didn't realize how uncomfortable the port and tissue expanders were until I had them out. I had mine done on a Thursday, took Friday off work and resumed normal activities on Monday. I had no pain at all and took nothing for any pain. Good luck.

Thanks everyone- I guess I just wanted to get it over with so badly, I didn't ask the Dr any questions about recovery! SO ready to get this lump (port) off my chest and these 2x4's out (expanders)! I wrote a blog yesterday to help the "newly diagnosed, will you guys help me out and add comments to it, of things that helped you prepare for this journey? www.adventuresoftraci.blogspot.com

I haven't had my implants put in yet and I didn't have expanders because I had a flap reconstruction that when all was said and done there still were no breast thus the implants. They say that you can expect some discomfort for a while with your skin being sensitive, but I don't think you will have that problem because you had the expanders. Good luck and I hope all turns out well with you.
