Religion is different from faith and Christianity. You can uave faith and never step foot in a church.

I am sooo very sorry that your father molested your brother and that the church further traumatized him by basically siding with your father. I know for a fact that is a very difficult betrayal to overcome. My son was abused by a person our family was trying to help. We didn't learn of it for many years, unfortunately. He is 39 years old now and suffers from a horrific case of PTSD , primarily a result of the rapes. Even though the person who committed those crimes wasn't "a man of faith" OR his father, my son doesn't have any desire to step foot in a church. However, he has a very deep and abiding faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Without Him, I feel sure my son would have committed suicide many years ago.

Hoping you and your brother find release from the terrible anger and can find your way to peace, especially as he lives his final days. I am not the person who told you I have rock solid proof ... I know beyond a doubt, but I can't think of anything that would convince you. I hope others will.

Molly72, I thought Dog meant that her father was an Episcopal priest (they can get married, have kids, remain priests). And she didn't say her brother was a monk. She said he went to a monk. I agree that her post is unclear. Maybe she can clarify this.

My father was a Russian Orthadox priest. In that religion the priest has to be married before he is ordained or remain single.
My brother went to a russian orthadox monistary in south carolina and at the church service he confessed his sins to a monk. That monk called up my father and told him.For a priest or man of the cloth to repeat some one else sins is sacrilegious. When my brother found out he had renal cancer it was already at stage 4 he told then toldme of the molestations.I asked my brother was it more then once.He said yes and said he didnt want to talk about it.How could he sit in the same room as him.
My father always had a girlfriend on the side and growing up i remember my mother confronting him at home. She said that the parishioners were starting to talk.He took off his belt and beat the snot out of her.I jumped on her to stop it and he was beating me.
My mother had to wear a sweater for 2 weeks because of the bruising. My mother couldnt understand why my dad didnt love her.She did everything for us.On the other hand my father left it up to god to help him.THAT NEVER HAPPENED.We grew up with nothing. How could he walk the walk of a priest and be the complete oposite. What a loser in every sense.

Dog, I am so sorry. As we all know, there are rotten human beings wasting oxygen, and they can be found in or out of religious institutions. I am an atheist, btw. I respect, of course, other people's religions. It's no news these days that men of the cloth (of various religions) are not exempt from committing heinous acts. Anyway, I wish you and your brother well.

      Humans can be pigs.. FACT.
Your soul seeks answers.. and never gives up.
Good people suffer while HORRIBLE people prosper.
Evil pays well in this earthly realm.. FACT

What first drew me to the God of the Bible is the Evidence of Evil. All of these things are addressed there. Jesus himself denounced the religious leaders of his time as hypocrites and children of the devil.

Matthew 23: 1 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.
5 “Everything they do is done for people to see
13 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!
16 “Woe to you, blind guides!
25 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. 26 Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.

HE is NOT Dying Today so that's where you start.
No time to waste so get busy living....Nobody knows when they leave the house whether they are coming home that night. Hit by a car, massive coronary or stroke, just plain old old age.
Most people don't know WHEN it's coming and neither do WE....It ain't over till it's over and YOU have to stop living like IT IS OVER....it's not. You're wasting all this time on this...Start Living. Pretend that everything is ok this hour or this day and enjoy the time you have left with your brother.....HEY....You might die first....nobody knows. I've been there done that and KNOW it's hard what you are going through and what He's going through. BUT you have TODAY....get on with it. Sorry if I ruffled your feathers.....ugh.

But Dog, do believe me when I tell you, your soul is not contingent on this earthly experience.. these vessels are temporary and weak. Your actual spark, that life that so obviously vacates at the point of death, is eternal. IT IS.

Dying is real. We all pass thru it.

I am not a very religious person because I do not like the judgemental attitudes of organized religion, but I do believe in the positivity of unconditional love.

What do you mean by scientific proof? Even scientists argue about what is proof- the methodology. can it be consistently replicated. All we can give you are our testimonies. We can try to give you logic-but there are so many types of logic. You would say that our logic is fallacy because one must believe in god to even listen to the argument-that's the argument of fallacy.

What is faith? I don't know--I think that it's believing that certain things will happen. I put gas in the truck, turn the key, and the engine starts up. 200 years ago-magic. Sometimes we go out and hope that the car will start. We believe that if we turn the light switch on, light will come on. We seldom question if the power plant is operating, we don't worry about the transmission lines, if the transformers are working properly. We just worry about paying the electric bill as that is our duty- that and faith that we will have electric when we turn on the switch.

There are many hypocrites in all religions and politics. I don't know if your familiar with dogs-horses. Man is ruining many breeds of both species- for dogs- backs too long, noses too short so the dogs can't breathe well-some breeds have eyes pop out if the dog sneezes. This is hurtful, but people don't wipe out a breed because of some breeders. About 25 years ago, there was a problem with appaloosas. The association permanently kicked these breeders out of the association. I will add that if you take a dark horse and an extremely half of a hot potato- you can brand the rump-and the hair grows in white-a snow flake App. White horses get black spots. So you look to see if the horse has eye whites like a human, striped hooves, freckles around the mouth and genitalia. Again- should we kill all appaloosa horses because of greedy hypocrites? In the 70s, some show people were trimming the hoof wrong to add height to a show horse, they didn't care that it crippled a horse. That people bought crippled horses that couldn't hold up- they were banned.

One question is why does bad things happen to good people-Christians-- A nun bargained with the SS that she'd die in place of some Jewish girls, and they have a monument for her in a camp. I seem to wander- If having faith and God exempted a person from having bad things happen-like a baby/child dying, an abusive parent, cancer, then everybody would be a Christian. If this could be a written contract-we'd all be Christians. The next question is-would it mean anything? Would we love Christ or the contract? When the French ruled French-Indochina, they didn't charge tax to Catholics. I had a friend that was a protestant missionary. people would come, convert to Christianity, get baptized, and ask for their tax exemption paper. Some after listening to the Word of God remained Christians and paid their taxes.

I'm so sorry that your brother has cancer. I'm sorry that any of us have cancer. I'm sorry that you are hurting so much. My mother was happy to exchange Atheism for Christianity, because the Bible gave her more reasons for her to beat us. She passed last year--she was 90- for the first time, my brother and I are free. No matter-it's between her and god. St. Paul said that even if the Christian faith and heaven is an illusion, faith gave him strength to get through this world. I don't know what happens after I take my last breath. Maybe the nothingness of the traditional Navajo beliefs, maybe the heaven that's described in the bible. I just know that I found peace in an abusive home. That my brother found peace. That my father found peace and strength-it actually eased his pain. My mother-it's none of my business-somehow I survived.

There is NO proof NOW....BUT guess what WE will ALL Find out someday.
Then we won't have to guess anymore. Who knows what's next ( sounds like our group ) but it is either NOTHING and that ain't bad OR Something and that sounds good. AND it might be a GOOD SOMETHING. I look at a bird in flight, smell the amazing aroma of a rose and feel but can't see the wind and WONDER....How did all that happen and then I say to myself.....Could be SO Much more of the Invisible that we can't see. Just because WE can see it doesn't mean it isn't there. Dogs hear things we don't and an Eagle can see much better than us and a dog can smell better than us AND we can't see cells or molecules or a Sperm or Egg.....lol
Better days are coming I BELIEVE. We can decide to believe or not....Free Will on this planet and that's good.

      "Dog": (god backwards!!)
God or religion has nothing to do with your father's behaviors.
He is just a nasty & cruel man. Maybe raised by nasty & cruel parents & he just perpetuated their actions.
Too many people blame their god/religion for either bad or good deeds which is quite convenient; it takes all the blame off their own conscience. People are responsible for what they do, period.
Eventually, your father will pay for his transgressions.

Molly72, unless a child-abuser (or anyone else doing a criminal act) is subjected to judicial procedures, the criminal won't "pay" for what he or she did. There is no "higher power" who will ultimately punish the perpetrator. I say this with as much confidence as you and others say what you say. No offense meant; I just tire of hearing certainties about what takes place after death.

My 'go to' analogy.. seems fitting here.

(Author Unknown) It so happened that twin brothers were conceived. As the weeks passed, the brothers grew. The more they became aware of themselves and their surroundings, the more their joy increased.

"Tell me now, isn't it great that we were conceived? Isn't it wonderful to be alive?"

The twins began to discover their world. When they found the cord that connected them to their mother and nourished them, they sang for joy: "How great is the love of our mother, who shares her own life with us!"

As the weeks and months went by, they suddenly noticed one day how much they had changed.

"What's this supposed to mean?" asked the one.

"This means," his brother said, "that our stay in this world is going to come to an end."

"But I don't want to go," said the first; "I would like to stay here forever."

"We have no other choice," said his brother, "but perhaps there is a life after birth."

"How could that be?" the first said in a dubious tone. "Our umbilical cord is going to be cut, and how could we live without it? Besides, others have left the womb before us, and none of them has ever returned and told us of a life after birth. No, birth is the end."

So one of the twins began to be deeply worried and said, "If conception ends with birth then what's the meaning of life in the womb? Life has no meaning. Maybe there isn't a mother behind all of this."

"But she must exist," protested the other. "Otherwise how would we have gotten here in the first place? And how could we have remained alive?"

"Have you ever seen our mother?" asked the first. "Maybe she only lives in our imagination. We have created her in order to make some sense of our own lives."

Thus the last days in the mother's womb were filled with many questions and great anxiety.

Finally came the moment of birth. As the twins left their world, they opened their eyes. They cried.

What they saw went beyond anything they could ever have imagined!

      Amen

I am certainly not a "Christian", nor do I profess to belong to any religion. I do not believe in a heaven or XXX. The only thing that I am certain of is that WE are all responsible for our own behaviors and actions.
I however have a notion that we must learn to treat all living things & our environment with the same respect that we wish for ourselves.
If we don't, then there will be a payback or lesson to be learned. It may take many different forms, too many for me to explain here! No "higher power" involved in payback time... no devils sticking someone with a pitchfork either or angels sitting on fluffy clouds! LOL

Interesting subject here, we all have our own agendas & belief system,

I'm visiting my brother in Japan in April-good weather without typhoons and horrible heat. My brother became a Buddhist, and I'm still a Christian. Good things came to us in our lives. We've actively done good for others-- I've been told that I've made a difference. My brother was told that he made a difference-and he has medals to show that.

Our childhood was so horrific that my brother never had any children, as he didn't think that he could be a parent-he knew that he had rage in him-- inappropriate responses. We were denied food day after day. My brother and I fell asleep in our classes. When asked why---I'm so hungry and tired.

Father left for work early. He didn't know that we didn't eat before school.. We lived about half of a mile from school-so we walked home and watched our mother eat a healthy lunch-then we walked back to school. When father came home, he was told that we already ate, so they could have a romantic meal. 5 and 6 years old.

My brother and I have talked---we know that we somehow lived without being crippled- kind to others---But my brother says that he would gladly give it all up if he had never been born, and never had to go through it. I'm a life time member of Phi Kappa Phi, and a member of of Phi Beta Kappa-look them up. I wish that I had never been born. I wish that I had never been stuck in hot water that left me covered with blisters. I wish that I never had to watch my brother be tormented, burned on a stove top,

I've held and nursed my new borns at my breast. I rode in a low cloud on an Arizona hogback. The cloud lifted and we were running in the middle of a mule deer herd, they scattered everywhere. I was filled with awe of what god can do. I've never talked to anybody else that had that happen while running a horse. I still have awe at the majesty and beauty that god made, but I still wish that I had never been born.

      Proof....
There is great divine order in this world from the seasons of nature, growth and development of mankind, how a woman and man body is connected and the result is new life from a woman's womb. There's evidence when someone gives up their life to save a stangers life. There's evidence that Christianity has stood the test of time and still abides today. There's evidence in the great artistry of the sky, flowers, sun and moon no denial that it was created by a divine hand because there is structure, pattern, beauty all around us. I know it because I've seen the power of Gods love and prayer. You and your brother were tortured for so many years and my hearts go out to you because you two have suffered so much and it's obvious that the two of you are still in the painful house of your youth and were never set free. I'm so sorry that your parents failed you, the monk, your community. But, there can be no peace until you forgive them. I'm speaking from experience how powerful forgiveness is. As hard as it is, say a prayer for them and I know that is asking so much, I know, but I've been there where you all are. Hurt by others, both physically and emotionally. You forgive them not for them but for yourself. That anger will eat you up inside, steal your joy and life. I know it's almost impossible to forgive them but that's what I would suggest you start. Jesus said "Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing". People can become consumed by evil and do great harm to others. Make your brothers days on this Earth the focus on good, positive things. I know you're very angry with God, been there before as well. But, He has the authority over our lives because our lives belong to Him. I don't know why you and your brother were tortured and mistreated growing up. In this world of beauty there are many evil things in it that are NOT of God. Good things happen to bad people and bad things happen to good people and there seem to be no rhyme or reason to it. But, there IS a higher power that abides that is greater than all the evil in this world. You and your brother are such strong people and whether you believe it or not you two ARE survivors. I believe that God has a tremendous plan for your brother whether its in this life or the next. Evil always try to take down the ones that God has a great plan for and you and your brother have suffered much. I pray that you and your brother are able to forgive them because you two are 1,000 times the people they were. Keep on fighting and just give God a chance. He will show up, I promise you He will. And you will have a perfect peace in your life that only He can give. I remember your post from earlier this week and I have thought about you and your brother and have been praying for you all like many people on this board. You two are not alone, not forgotten. I will continue to pray for you and your brother with expectancy that peace will come into your lives and many blessings as well.

All I can tell you is.... I believe there is a perfect balance to the universe. Being born into a messed up family is horrible. Having cancer is horrible. War is horrible. I could go on and on.... To balance out all this that is horrible in life..... there has to be something that is so wonderful that it wipes out all the horrible. It balances the scales.... so there must be something better.

I believe that is an afterlife.... and there is a ticket available to you if you ask the right person....

dog, I'm glad you used the logical argument. Is it logical that people who reside in heaven would cause pain. It is the opposite of horrible. I believe that in heaven.... only those who made peace with the Lord would be there. During that process.... our transgressions are forgiven.

Have you ever caused anyone pain? Are you afraid of the heaven concept because you yourself have caused others pain so you figure you yourself can never be accepted? Since it's heaven.... everything is possible for those who believe. Since it's heaven... you won't feel the hurt when you meet someone who has wronged you.... you won't feel hurt when you meet someone who you have wronged. It's ok because in order to reach heaven.... all the horror you caused has been forgiven.

SO.....is there a ME besides the brain which is physical and will Die after I die....and will I LIVE ON.....Sorry to rock your brains so early today but that is a conundrum.....lol

My daughter once posed the question to me " If a scientist came to you with rock solid proof that God does not exist would you stop believing in God?" My reply was "If a scientist came to me with rock solid proof that god did exist, then I would stop believing in god. At least I would not believe in that scientists god.

@dog. There are a lot of us whose prayers have gone unanswered for many, many years. It doesn't mean, in my belief, that God doesn't exist but just that He knows what's best for me better than I do. Sometimes we might not be spiritually prepared to handle blessings. Ever seen a lottery winner end up broke within a few years. We have to be in the right place that He deems appropriate to receive His blessings and then there are times that we pray for things that aren't meant for us. That's where faith becomes so hard and challenging. (I guess I won't be marrying George Clooney...lol) but seriously, the only answer I have is that there is a God and He does loves you very much. That is all that I know. I don't know His reasons, His plans, nor His purpose. Give your brother many bigs hugs and let him know that we on WhatNext are thinking about him and that He's not alone. You're a great sister btw... : )
