    Royal pain the the rear

I'm 4 weeks post surgery on my rectal cancer. I had the TMR with a temp ileostomy. Now I can't sit for any extended time with out extreme discomfort. Anybody else have this problem. What can I do to get relief?

My experience was very similar. It just takes time and some pain pills.I was mostly in a horizontal position the first month. Good luck. It does get better. I promise :-)

Robbie, may I inquire as to what pain meds you were using?

So percaset has given no relief. Even added a few lorezapam.

I had the same problem after reversing my ileostomy and had so much pain and discomfort that I asked my doctor to put it back. However and older doctor saw me because my doctor was not available and he prescribed Ancourt (may not be spelled right) suppositories and they helped so much. I think he said I was having muscle spasms where my surgery was done. Hope this will help.

Sorry to hear about your discomfort. Yes I had the same surgery as you with a temp ileostomy but I never had the pain like you did. So I cannot help you. But I do wish you the best of luck. Keep a POSITIVE ATTITUDE and it will all work out for you. Next time when you see your doctor ask for help and what can be done to help with the discomfort.

I got a pillow...I'm sorry, that's what I did. I tried one of those inflatable rings, but one of the nurses told me that wasn't a good idea, as it stretches things the wrong way. Even tho it was laproscopic, its' still major surgery, and things need time to heal & settle back into place. When it got too painful, I would just get up & walk around..or work standing up...or take a nap. At this point in recovery, I wasn't taking anything except ibuprofen. I think at one point I might have sat on a sack of peas for a while, but usually, just changing positions would help. I know thats not really helpful, but this too shall pass.....
