    Scar tissue after port removal

I got my port removed about 1 month ago. Is it normal for the area where the port used to be thick and somewhat hardened? I'm assuming this is scar tissue. It doesn't hurt or anything but I can feel it when I press on the area....almost as if the port was still there (but smaller).

It will get better with time. Vit E oil might help that.

It's been since Dec, 2012 when I had my port out. Sometimes, it gets tender and itches. Definitely need sunscreen for the summer.

That's a perfect description of my scar. It doesn't hurt all the time, just if I lean up against something and press on it very hard I get a twitching pain. You're probably feeling what's normal. It will probably stay a little tender if you bump it, but it will not be on your mind everyday.

I've had mine out for about 18 months. I have a scar with some scar tissue built up under the skin. It rarely bothers me, but does on occasion itch or becomes a little tender. It has gotten better over time, and the scar and scar tissue less noticeable. I agree with Liha and Greg - it will get better over time as you continue to heal.

I was told it depends on each person how your scar will look like....a good reference would be other little scars you may have from previous injury for you to see if your body is more likely to good or bad scars......but as soon as it doesn't hurt, licks or presents blood it would be just a matter of appearance and you could talk with a plastic dermatologist to help you with ways to improve the appearance of the area........wishing you all the best....God bless you and continue blessing all of us

My surgeon recommended using the oil in Vitamin E capsules and it did help.

When my port was removed I had a bump under the skin and I was tempted to go back to my surgeon and ask if he could "fix" it. Fortunately, I waited awhile longer and that bump went away. Now it is kind of a shallow dent instead that causes me no discomfort whatsoever. You may always have some scar tissue. I have quite a bit in my lumpectomy incision area and expect I always will. At least the port is out and that's a good thing!

I just called my doctor today about a hard lump where my port was removed. I had bleeding after removal and had to have it stitched up. Dr. suggested it might be scare tissue and to come in. But now I'm no longer worried; I have gotten keloids from other surgery. The port itches and is irritating when coat or bed linen rubs it. I will try the Vitamin E.
