    Sciatica nerve pain?

Hi! I have had some horrible pains in my right butt cheek. Right about in the middle that go down my right leg. Today mostly in the front of my right leg. I assume sciatica nerve pain. Had it a couple weeks ago and it got better and started up again today. I am currently on pain meds and sitting on a heating pad afraid to move. Last time I got up to work on laundry the pain was unbearable. Has anyone had to deal with this? Any tips or advise would be much appreciated.

Years ago a physical therapist told me to lie on my back, lift my leg a few inches, and point toes toward my head and hold it, which stretches the muscle/nerve in your lower back. Sorry, it's been so long I've forgotten how many times to repeat. She suggested even doing it in bed every morning as a preventive to keep the muscle/nerve loose. It feels good, and I think it stretches your hamstring to relieve walking pain from sciatica.

Have you ever seen people put one foot on a car bumper and bend towards their feet? That stretches your hamstring, too.

Sorry, I forgot to reply to your question! I'm sorry you're in pain. I've had sciatica for many years. My doctors always prescribed muscle relaxers, because the muscles around the joint spasm and they need to relax, which helps immediately. I also got prescription anti-inflammatories, and one time I got a cortisone injection. Physical therapy can help long-term. Last time after bending and doing laundry at my parents' house, my whole leg went numb, and I went to Urgent Care. (I've never used heat or narcotics for SI pain. Narcotics don't make you well. They only mask pain.)

If you can't get medicine or an appointment with your doctor, I would go to the ER or Urgent Care. Let us know what happens. Wishing you the best!

Thank you all very much! I really appreciate it. It did get better. I used heat and then a doctor suggested ice too so I tried that and I tried some of the stretching exercises you guys suggested. It really helped. The last time it got this bad I was outlet shopping and trying to stretch in a dressing room. Really hope there were no security cameras or I gave someone a good laugh. You would think after all we have gone through something like sciatica nerve pain wouldn’t bring you to your knees but it did. Glad it is gone for now and appreciate you all taking time to help me. Hope everyone has a great day!
