Since you started dealing with cancer, how many times have you had to make an ER visit because you couldn't get to your oncologist?

It seems like I can never have anything go wrong during the day so I can call my oncologist and go to the clinic to see them. It's always after hours and the usual response from the after hours phone number is to go to the nearest ER. I've had to make 4 trips in the last two years. Anyone else having this issue?

I have had two cases similar to what you describe lately. One was just this week when I couldn't breathe all of a sudden. We had just gotten back to our home town after being in Nashville to see my oncologist. The other was when I had again just gotten home after having outpatient surgery. My blood pressure was through the roof and I had chest pains. Each of those turned out to be nothing and I was sent home.

I have had to make a few trips, 4 I think. Low blood counts, chest pains, and a couple of false alarms.

I have had to go to ER twice. Once for lactic acidosis and dehydration admitted and spent 2 days in hospital. Second time just a week ago tested positive for influenza A, low potassium, high lactic acid and dehydration. Spent two days in isolation in hospital.

Only once ... and it was a bust. I was running a fever the night before Thanksgiving. The on-call doctor told me to go to the ER. That was a terrible experience and I vowed, "never again." Not for a low-grade fever anyway. Thankfully, I've been extremely healthy throughout my journey and the few times I've had an issue, it's been easily resolved.

Yes, I have had to go to ER twice because it was after hours/into the weekend and I was admitted twice, too.

I simply had the Best oncologist in the world. He had been through breast cancer with me. When he discovered non-hodgkins, he said not to worry that he would go through this with me too. I had to be admitted after hours twice. both times he met me in the hospital, in his office and escorted me to my room. Add to that the fact that I would get 2 or 3 calls a week from him on his way home just to "See how you are doing". He's one of a kind! By the way, he says he will take care of my 'girls' as long as I live.
