SITE ANNOUNCEMENT: New Moderator Introduction
Hello WhatNext community. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Colby and I'm the managing editor at Patient Worthy, a patient-focused news website. In the weeks since Greg's passing, there has been much discussion behind the scenes about the future of WhatNext and how to best ensure that the website continues to grow. I don't have any final answers for you today, but I did want to let everyone here know that we will be stepping in to help with moderation and site maintenance duties to help keep everything running smoothly. If you have any questions, please let me know and feel free to say hi. Thanks for your time.

Hi Colby, glad to hear that you’re going to be helping out with our site. We are still reeling from our loss of our leader Greg and welcome you to the start of a new chapter to continue his vision of support and caring to all of us. We know he would want us to keep this going. Thanks.

Welcome and thank you for your assistance. We are a driven group, and we don't want to diminish Greg's legacy by giving up. But we do realize that we cannot do this without some help. So, thank you very much.

Thank you very much for the update, Colby. Personally, I'm still grieving Greg's passing and I'm sure many others are as well. Yes, he would want us to keep things going.

Thank you for stepping up and stepping in Colby. We do miss Greg and his leadership, but most of us are pretty good about "self-policing" and keeping things positive. I think the biggest issue we are facing right now is some spammers and people who are obviously not part of the group who have been posting inappropriate content and phishing/spam on a couple of threads.
Anyhow, we welcome new leadership or at least moderatorship.

Hi Colby, welcome. If you don't mind me asking, what's your connection to cancer besides being the managing editor at Patient Worthy? How are we to get in touch with you if we notice something has gone awry on the site - like a lot of spam messages coming through or something similar?
Thanks, and again, welcome.

Hi, Colby and welcome to WhatNext. I appreciate that you are willing to oversee us if only for the interim. WhatNext has not been the same without Greg. We are continuing on, because we don't want to let him down. We are a good group, and we continue to support each other. However, we do need a leader. I hope you are successful in your search.

Hello everyone and thank you for the warm welcome! If you know of any spam or threads that need special attention, you can send them to my email. That's [email redacted].
@LiveWithCancer, to answer your question specifically, two of my immediate family members are cancer survivors, both head and neck diagnoses. One of them finished up their last chemo/radiation treatments earlier this year (a challenge during COVID, to say the least.) I'm happy to say that both are doing well!

I was unaware of the filter in place for email addresses. Likely a spam measure, and a good idea! If you need to send me any info about spam on the site, or any threads that need attention, you can reach me at colby @ patientworthy dot com. Just be sure to remove the spaces and replace the "dot" with actual period when you type in the email address. Inelegant, but I want to be able to communicate with everyone. Sorry for any confusion.

Thanks for answering my question, ColbyR. I am glad your family members are doing well!
You will find, if you spend much time here, that the filters on this site are very strong. They disallow a LOT of stuff that causes most of us to shake our heads in wonder at WHY??? Email addresses and telephone numbers, etc. are definitely taboo here :) (And, like you said, understandably so)

I was ready to “retire” after working with Greg for about 7-8 years on this site. The spam and XXX sites have become overwhelming...on 10-12 pages there MIGHT be only 20 comments that don’t reference nonsense, nude photos, drug information...is there anything you can do to eliminate these? In the past I would email Greg and IT would take of it very quickly. I just don’t have the time or patience to wade through all the spam, most of which are quite lengthy.

Forgot to mention the SHARE button which I had been using for any inappropriate postings...but there are so many to share it has become onerous.
