The last time I went to the oncologist, my blood tests indicated I may have kidney problems. The doctor suggested I need to increase my intake of electrolytes.

I posted to FB about it. I don't like Gatorade. I was asking for ideas for things I can drink that will increase electrolytes without flavor.

I then did some research and discovered that there are some foods that will also increase electrolytes. I posted an article from Livestrong to FB so I could find it easily.

Today, my doorbell rang. There stood my agility instructor and friend with a ton of groceries. He had gone up and down aisles shopping for foods that would help increase my electrolytes. He drove an hour to get here ... and had to rush back home to go to a Relay for Life event with his significant other.

We talk often about friends abandoning us when we get sick. I had that happen. But, I gained friends like this. True friends. Friends who go far, FAR beyond the call of duty.

    I am lucky beyond belief.

He restores my faith in humanity, too. Nicest guy on earth. So thoughtful.

Good to hear! My wavering faith in humanity is often restored - at least until I read more daily news - when I read about or see videos of people helping cats. What you posted, LiveWith, helps, too.

And BTW, a fresh young coconut or a can without additives each has young coconut water which is filled with electrolytes.

I have read that Doctors operating during war in the tropics or Far East have used coconut water instead of plasma and it is so close to perfect for humans, that it can stand in for plasma.

I drink powerade. It is too strong for me so I save water bottles and dilute to taste. I hope that this helps.

@GregP_WN, you hit the nail on the head. This is the most caring and giving family I have ever had the privilege of knowing. The reality is, i would never have gotten to be friends with them if it weren't for having cancer. I was acquaintances with them, but not friends. I think i will never have another set of friends like this, but am blessed beyond measure to have ever had such an opportunity.

@geekling, good question. How do I repay their generosity and kindness? I honestly have no idea.

Be observant, Livewith, and dont lose the feeling of gratitude, awe, & wonder you currently have.

Things are sometimes paid forward and sometimes paid back. One simply doesnt ever know.

Simply live in gratitude and all will be well, dont you think?

What a wonderful jester from friends who should be cherished. What do you think about finding a nice card and a gift card for a nice meal out for your friends to express your appreciation?

@LiveWithCancer that was so great what your friend did. A friend of mine said his doctor told him to drink Smart water to get his electrolytes and that is what I do now.

Thank you, @BuckeyeShelby! That's so sweet and I appreciate it very much.

@RubyFaye, I FINALLY went to get some smart water. I am the world's biggest procrastinator, which is one reason my friend brought all of this good for me food. I bought a case of added electrolyte water at Kroger. It tastes fine!
